A Short History of the Company As mentioned briefly, Panda Express was founded by Andrew Cherng and his father in 1973. They first opened the Panda Inn in Pasadena and brought Mandarin and Szechuan flavors to the area for the first time. Working with his wife now instead of his father, Andrew was committed to using only the best meats, the freshest vegetables and the most aromatic spices. This vision has served Panda Express well as it continued to grow across the county. By 1983 Andrew and his wife Peggy had opened the first fast food smaller version of the Panda Inn at the Glendale Galleria. What followed was amazing growth of the Panda Express, and of the Panda Express jobs, throughout the next two decades.
